Overview

Named after the beautiful Californian beach city, the Malibu has been around since 1964. Receiving countless accolades and recommendations since being named the North American Car of the Year in 2008, the Chevrolet Malibu continues to offer great efficiency packaged in a signature design. The 2013 Chevy Malibu will make its debut in the Eco trim as of now with a 2.4-liter four-cylinder and a mild-hybrid system although it will feature a new 2.5-liter four-cylinder as standard equipment starting in summer 2012, with an optional turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine arriving later in the year. The 2013 Chevy Malibu is completely revamped. The car has received refinement and more features compared to its earlier version.

Power and performance

Every 2013 Malibu Eco model is powered by a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine coupled with a six speed automatic transmission and a small electric motor that churns out 182 horsepower and 172 pound-feet of torque. The estimated fuel economy is 25 mpg in city and 37 mpg on the highway. The 2013 Chevy Malibu will come be available with a standard 2.5 ? liter four cylinder or an optional 2.0 liter four cylinder engine in the future.

Body and styling

The new Malibu is wider than its earlier version providing ample of shoulder and hiproom. The revamped Malibu is indeed attractive in appearance. The interior features soft-touch materials and high-quality switchgear. The controls include a touchscreen. The new MyLink system let you connect your smartphone to the vehicle via a USB jack and/or the Bluetooth system so that you can do hands-free calling. It also features a well navigation system for the first time. Right now the 2013 Chevy Malibu is available in a single Eco trim although LS, LT, and LTZ trims are expected to get launched in 2012 summer. The Eco trim includes 17-inch alloy wheels, automatic headlights, heated mirrors, cruise control, keyless entry, dual zone automatic climate control, a 60/40-split-folding rear seat, a tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel, OnStar, Bluetooth phone and audio connectivity, Chevrolet MyLink smartphone integration (includes voice controls, Pandora and Sticher Internet radio compatibility), a touchscreen infotainment interface and a six-speaker sound system with a CD player, satellite radio, an auxiliary audio jack and an iPod/USB audio interface. The sunroof comes as a stand-alone option. Other optional packages include Power Convenience package that adds remote ignition, a rearview camera, an eight-way power driver seat, auto-dimming rearview mirror. The Premium Audio package offers the Power Convenience items plus an upgraded Pioneer sound system, foglamps, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. The Leather package includes the contents from both Power Convenience package and Premium Audio package. In addition to it, the package also offers leather upholstery and heated front seats. The Navigation package includes all of the above, plus a navigation system and driver memory functions.

Safety Features

The Chevrolet Malibu's standard safety features include side-curtain airbags; seat-mounted thorax airbags; halogen headlamps composite with automatic exterior lamp control and daytime running lamps; anti-lock brakes and StabiliTrak electronic stability control system which includes traction control; brake assist and tire pressure monitor (excludes spare tire).
