2008 Chevrolet Malibu: Highest Ranked Midsize Car in Initial Quality Study
The Malibu shares its basic design with the Pontiac G6, and is the smaller of Chevy’s two midsize sedans. The 2008 Malibu can seat five, is 6 inches longer in wheelbase and 3 inches longer overall, and available in LS, LT and LTZ trim. The Malibu Maxx hatchback makes an exit for 2008. A gas/electric Hybrid model is part of the lineup. The 2008 Chevrolet Malibu has bowled over car buyers in the highly competitive midsize segment, as well as the automotive press, which has deemed it as 2008 North American Car of the Year. EPA estimates fuel economy at 24 mpg city/32 mpg highway, mileage figures which are impressive in these days of high gasoline prices.
Based on the same platform as the Saturn Aura and Pontiac G6, the midsize 2008 Chevrolet Malibu is 6 inches longer than the 2007 model and, at 112 inches, is the longest Malibu ever and the same size as the 2008 Chevrolet Impala. The Malibu LS and LT models have a standard 169-hp 2.4-liter 4-cylinder engine that teams with a 4-speed automatic transmission. Optional on the LT and standard on the LTZ is a 252-hp 3.6-liter V6 that teams with the 6-speed automatic. A Hybrid system as a powertrain choice, features an ECOTEC 2.4L 4-cylinder Hybrid engine with Variable Valve Timing (VVT) and a four-speed automatic Hybrid transmission.
